Tuscany has long been considered one of the most beautiful photography locations in Europe. It possesses gorgeous, golden harvested yellow rolling hills interspersed by the cobbled streets of medieval towns. The mist fills the surrounding valleys at sunrise and they provide the most wonderful view in which to start your day with and in the evenings, capturing the warm glow of the setting sun over the golden landscape in springtime is an absolute must.
May in Tuscany offers the landscape at its most vibrant and the weather is particularly pleasant and warm. We get to experience and enjoy the mist in the valleys in the morning, as well as lone chapels, churches, Cyprus tree lined roads, medieval walled towns and the rolling hills and vineyards which will have just been harvested and as well as an abundance of flowers that fill various rolling fields including the wonderful red poppoies.Â
Our choice of accommodation for the five nights is the idyllically located Hotel Casanova. Positioned in an olive and cypress park in the very heart of San Quirico d’Orcia, it offers unrivalled views of the valley from the terrace as well as a in-house restaurant, bar-cafe and a spa area that incorporates a large heated pool with 18 air-water jets, a hydro-massage whirlpool and a Finnish Sauna. The hotel is perfectly positioned to reduce the amount of time spent driving, leaving more time for your photography as well as allowing us a short walk into town to dine at some of the wonderful local restaurants too.Â
We will be staying at the beautiful Hotel Casanova in the heart of San Quirico d’Orcia. This ensures that we are as close as possible to the locations that we will be photographing meaning less time spent travelling in the minibus.
You will each have your own double en-suite room. There is no single occupancy supplement charged.
The hotel also has unrivalled views of the valley from the terrace as well as a in-house restaurant, bar-cafe and a spa area that incorporates a large heated pool with 18 air-water jets, a hydro-massage whirlpool and a Finnish Sauna. The outdoor pool is free to use but there is a fee charged if you would like to use the indoor spa area).

Tuscany 2020 – Sept 2020
Another great workshop with Melvin, this time to the San Quiricio d’Orcia area in Tuscany. A first rate hotel with great facilities (not that we found a lot of time to use them), the hotel also had the advantage that it was within a short drive or even a short walk from some of the iconic sites for great photography in the region.
We photographic at all the great spots and even managed to get mist in the valleys for our early morning sunsets.
As ever Melvin was great fun with more enthusiasm for photography than many people.
Overall it was a great 5 days and I look forward to the next trip with Melvin.
