Northumberland Photography Workshop, March 2019

12th – 14th Mar 2019

Northumberland offers some of the most dramatic seascape in the UK. Situated on the eastern side of northern England, this fascinating stretch of coastline offers the landscape photographer thirty miles of outstanding beaches, a huge variety of rock formations not to mention castles galore.

The Northumberland coastline is dominated by the castles of Bamburgh, Lindsifarne and Dunstanburgh but there is much more to Northumberland than just castles. On our specially created three day workshop we will be visiting the above castles as well as several other locations depending on the tide times, weather conditions and the direction of the sun. There are so many stunning locations to visit, from the big, smooth boulder beach of Embleton to the quaint harbour of Beadnell. From the fishing village of Seahouses with its numerous fishing boats and fantastic rock formations to the excitement of being stranded on Holy Island at high tide and photographing the 16th century castle positioned high up on volcanic rock. Of course, no visit to Northumberland is complete without standing on the gorgeous beach at Bamburgh at dawn and watching the sun rise and illuminate the majestic castle. Little wonder why Northumberland is one of the top destinations for landscape photographers in the UK.

Come and join me on my three day workshop which is limited to just six people as I prefer to keep the group small and friendly while allowing me enough time with you on location. This is a tuition and transport only tour but local accommodation can be sought between £50-£100 per night in Seahouses. You will receive from dedicated professional 1-2-1 tuition, and all transport between locations in a modern nine seat Ford Tourneo minibus. I also offer return transport from Preston, Lancashire at £50 for those who require it.

THE WORKSHOP STARTS AT 10am Tuesday 12th and finishes 6pm Thursday 14th March 2019.

I offer return travel from Preston to Northumberland and back if anyone would prefer not to drive. There is a small fee charged of just £50.00. I will be leaving Preston at 6am on Tuesday 12th and arriving at the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh around 9.45am. We will be stopping off for

If you would like to be collected 6am on the Tuesday and wish to stay over in Preston the night before (where I live), I recommend you stay at the IBIS Hotel at J32, M6, north end of Preston. This is a modern, reasonably priced hotel on the edge of the M6 motorway making it easier for me to collect people and gain quick and easy access onto the M6 motorway heading north to Scotland.

Our mode of transport for this workshop is my modern nine seater long wheelbase Ford Tourneo minibus. This ensures that there is plenty of space for us all including luggage, clothing and camera equipment.

Our base during the workshop is the beautiful and cosy Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh. This charming hotel is situated in the very heart of Bamburgh and overlooks the castle. The hotel was recently awarded 3 stars by the AA, and received a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. You will have your own double en-suite room and breakfast is included. There is a restaurant located in the hotel too.

Tripadvisor Northumberland Workshop Reviews

Fantastic experiences! March 2016 Workshop – Suzanne Wafer (UK)
I’ve been lucky enough to experience two workshops with Melvin, both times also in the company of Tony Higginson – a 3-day workshop in Northumberland in 2016 and Melvin’s first international workshop, a week in Iceland in March 2017. I cannot say enough good things about this (these!) amazing photographer(s) – not only do they produce amazing work themselves, but they are so keen to share their knowledge, skills and experience with others.

Northumberland Workshop October 2015 Workshop – Mark Buckley (UK)
A fantastic few days I will never forget. Melvin, a.k.a (Will Young) and Tony, a.k.a (Karl Pilkingon) are a credit to their profession. Not only did I gain experience on photographing landscape, better understanding of composition, gaining experience on what my own camera is capable of, I was also treated to some wonderful locations that I will revisit time and time again.

Tip Top Tuition ….and ….a bundle of laughs! March 2015 Workshop – Ian Moore (UK)
Spent 2 days with Melvin on a landscape workshop on the Northumberland coast…variable weather meant several changes to the plans, but still got some great shots of Bamburgh, and Holy Island. Add in a laugh a minute and you have a recipe for an informative and enjoyable workshop atmosphere. May your tribe increase!
