Assynt & Inverpolly, November 2024
£1,795.00
1st – 6th Nov 2024
Workshop Leader: Dave Nelson
Assynt and Inverpolly is a stunning part of the west coast of Scotland. The one big advantage of this region is that it is not overrun by visitors and photographers alike which allows a unique opportunity to experience untold amounts of peace and quiet. You can quite often find yourself alone with just your thoughts and camera.
Assynt also provides three main mountains (known as Grahams) and they are all wonderfully isolated in the landscape allowing you to capture wide open vistas with all three peaks of Suilven, Cùl Mòr and the most famous in the area, Stac Pollaidh, in one image.
They all take centre stage and shine in the wonderful Scottish light that is so often present on the west coast. You will also get an opportunity to visit some of the finest beaches in Scotland too, Clachtoll, Achmelvich and Achnahaird.
Clachtoll is without doubt the most dramatic as it features some of the most impressive striated rock formations in the UK along with the iconic triangular Spilt Rock that lies isolated in the water. The beaches of Achmelvich and Achnahaird are a combination of golden sand and interesting rocks and coastline, especially Achmelvich which also features its very own ‘mini castle’ that overlooks the ocean.
Our base for the five nights will be a gorgeous, spacious seven bedroom home by the sea at Clashnessie, just a five minute drive north of Clachtoll. This allows us to be perfectly positioned for many of the locations that we will be visiting. Assynt and Inverpolly have quickly become one of our favourite places in the UK to visit with a camera. With this in mind, we are genuinely excited to be running a five day photography tour to Assynt and Inverpolly.
ITINERARY
Day 1 : Friday 1st November 2024
We will meet at our accommodation in Clashnessie at 5pm before settling in, discussing what the workshop will entail and answer any questions you may have. We shall then head into Lochinver to dine at a local restaurant for the evening.
Day 2 – 5 : 2nd Saturday – 5th Tuesday November 2024
We have no fixed itinerary as the day’s schedule will be decided by the light and weather. We will aim however to be out on location pre-sunrise until sunset and on a couple of days we shall return to the house for breakfast
Day 6 : Wednesday 6th November 2024
We will have breakfast before checking out of the house by 10am after what we are sure will be a memorable and enjoyable time in Assynt
We will be based in a beautiful, spacious seven bedroom holiday home by the sea, just a short drive from Clachtoll. We have booked the entire house which will suit our needs perfectly. Breakfast provisions will be provided.
There is a mixture of double and twin rooms available (five bedrooms are en-suite).

Tripadvisor Reviews ( Read all reviews here )
What a brilliant workshop in all respects, photography, people, tuition, photographic guidance, accommodation, image reviews, food, professional delivery, everything was perfect.
Melvin put every ounce of his being into making it great for the 5 of us on the workshop, under his guidance I shot some spectacular landscape shots.
Melvin’s meticulous research of the area was second-to-non – which clearly showed as he took us to the most spectacular locations to capture sunsets/rises and stunning scenery.
A little visited area of the British Isles this workshop is a must for any photographer.
I attended Melvin’s 5 day photographic workshop in Assynt in the far north west of Scotland. The area is stunning and rife with photographic possibilities and Melvin had obviously done his homework to ensure we (5 of us) could make the most of it.
We stayed in a rented house on the edge of Lochinver that was itself in a scenic spot and ideal for our needs.
Moreover Melvin is an excellent workshop leader and runs fairly small workshops to ensure each participant receives help and guidance appropriate to their needs. He’s also a very entertaining host.
