Salt Marshes, Northton, Isle of Harris, Scotland

A2 or A3 print of Salt Marshes, Northton, Isle of Harris, Scotland

There are so many amazing places on the Isle of Harris and Lewis that nothing should surprise me any longer but standing there on the edge of a grassy bank where the tide comes in twice a day with a 368 metre fell as a backdrop takes some beating. The salt marshes at Northton (and indeed Seilebost) are very special and rare, and have been classed as Sites of Special Scientific Interest due to plant life being able to survive without with very little food in the soil. But for us landscape photographers, it is the seemingly endless compositions that are available to us. So many grassy banks and water channels that help to create interesting and exciting images and when the sky, light and colour are just right, it really is a magical scene.
