The Isle of Skye offers some of the most dramatic scenery to the landscape photographer in the UK. Situated on the western side of Scotland, this fascinating island offers a wide variety of exciting, inspirational and mesmorising views to be captured on camera.

Dominated by the Black Cuillins, Skye’s highest peak is Sgùrr Alasdair at 992 m (3,255 ft). It is visible from almost everywhere on the island but none more so than at Elgol which is perhaps the most impressive location to see the Black Cuillins in all their glory and Skye is known for its dramatic weather and unrivalled light. Five days on this island will have you return time and time again but be warned, you will fall in love with it.

During our five days on Skye, we will visit many of the iconic locations that have made the island famous. From the 160ft tall Old Man of Storr that stands guard high up over the east side of the island to the hugely impressive Quiraing and Trotternish, both created from huge Jurassic landslips. The tremendously atmospheric Elgol from which the dominant and mystical Black Cuillins stand before you across Loch Scavaig. The Fairy Pool waterfalls and Glen Brittle river are truly unique with its aqua coloured water, plunge pools and an underwater arch, sights that will leave you you with long lasting memories.

Sligachan Bridge and its river also feature on the list of locations that you will definitely not want to miss, especially during a glorious sunset as the Red Cuillins glow vibrant orange. Neist Point and its lighthouse that stands high up on the edge of a peninsula on the most westerly point of the island also allow for some spectacular sunsets to be captured here. Overall, the Isle of Skye has earned itself an enviable reputation for delivering spectacular scenery in dramatic weather. You will love it.

THE WORKSHOP STARTS AT 5pm Friday 22nd and finishes 10am Wednesday 27th February 2019.

TRANSPORT TO SKYE AND BACK TO PRESTON (if required)
I offer return travel from Preston to Skye and back for £75.00 if anyone would prefer not to drive. I will be leaving Preston at 7.30am on Friday 22nd and arriving at Portree between 4pm-5pm. We will be stopping off for lunch and toilet stops en-route.

If you would like to be collected 7.30am on the Friday and wish to stay over in Preston the night before (where I live), I recommend you stay at the IBIS Hotel at J32, M6, north end of Preston. This is a modern, reasonably priced hotel on the edge of the M6 motorway making it easier for me to collect people and gain quick and easy access onto the M6 motorway heading north to Scotland.

TRANSPORT DURING THE WORKSHOP
Our mode of transport for this workshop is my modern nine-seater long wheelbase Ford Tourneo minibus. This ensures that there is plenty of space for us all including luggage, clothing and camera equipment. The minibus also provides three pin plug sockets for charging up camera batteries on the go as well as several USB ports for charging up mobile phones. There is dedicated heating for rear passengers.

ACCOMMODATION
Our accommodation during the workshop consists of a six bedroom self-catering house located six miles north west of Portree making it ideally based for the locations that we will be visiting as well as heading down into Portree for evening meals if wanted. More details available on request including photos.

MEALS
This workshop is self catering. Please feel free to bring your own food but we will be making regular visits to the large local Coop supermarket in Portree.

Tripadvisor Isle of Skye Workshop Reviews

Isle of Skye Workshop March 2018 Workshop – Csilla Magyar (Hungary)
It was my second workshop with Melvin and I plan to attend more. He is not only a professional photographer with a huge knowledge but a very good teacher and a good friend as well.

Skye Workshop October 2017 Workshop – Jonathan Lane (UK)
A great five day photography workshop at the beginning of October on the island of Skye. Melvin’s knowledge and experience of photography is vast and his ability to pass on this knowledge is excellent. He also spent time with each individual.

Isle of Skye Workshop November 2015 Workshop – Kwame Asiaw (UK)
Had heard great things about the island of Skye so when an opportunity to visit on a photography workshop with Melvin came up I jumped on it. Safe to say I wasn’t disappointed. What a spectacular landscape with spectacular light.
