Exertion Level
Easy / Medium / Hard – All locations within half a mile from the car, some much closer (except the Old Man of Storr which is an hour or so uphill). Some slippery rocks near waterfalls and uneven ground. A good level of fitness and mobility is required.

The Isle of Skye offers some of the most dramatic scenery to the landscape photographer in the UK. Situated on the western side of Scotland, this fascinating island offers a wide variety of exciting, inspirational and mesmorising views to be captured on camera.

Dominated by the Black Cuillins, Skye’s highest peak is Sgùrr Alasdair at 992 m (3,255 ft). It is visible from almost everywhere on the island but none more so than at Elgol which is perhaps the most impressive location to see the Black Cuillins in all their glory and Skye is known for its dramatic weather and unrivalled light. Five days on this island will have you return time and time again but be warned, you will fall in love with it.

During our time on Skye, we will visit many of the iconic locations that have made the island famous. From the 160ft tall Old Man of Storr that stands guard high up over the east side of the island to the hugely impressive Quiraing and Trotternish, both created from huge Jurassic landslips. The tremendously atmospheric Elgol from which the dominant and mystical Black Cuillins stand before you across Loch Scavaig. The Fairy Pool waterfalls and Glen Brittle river are truly unique with its aqua coloured water, plunge pools and an underwater arch, sights that will leave you you with long lasting memories.

Sligachan Bridge and its river also feature on the list of locations that you will definitely not want to miss, especially during a glorious sunset as the Red Cuillins glow vibrant orange. Neist Point and its lighthouse that stands high up on the edge of a peninsula on the most westerly point of the island also allow for some spectacular sunsets to be captured here.

The Isle of Skye has earned itself an enviable reputation for delivering spectacular scenery in dramatic weather. You will love it.

Six bedroom house near Portree. You will have your own room. Shared bathroom facilities.

RETURN TRANSPORT TO SKYE FROM PRESTON AVAILABLE (if required)

I offer return travel from Preston to the house near Portree on Skye and back for £75.00 if anyone would prefer not to drive. I will be leaving Preston at 8am on Friday 22nd February and arriving at the house between 4pm-5pm. We will be stopping off for lunch and toilet stops en-route.

If you would like to be collected at 8am on the Friday and wish to stay over in Preston the night before (where I live), I recommend you stay at the IBIS Hotel at J32, M6, north end of Preston. This is a modern, reasonably priced hotel on the edge of the M6 motorway making it easier for me to collect you and gain quick and easy access onto the M6 motorway to head north to Skye.

TRANSPORT DURING THE WORKSHOP
Our mode of transport for this workshop is my modern nine-seater long wheelbase Ford Tourneo minibus. This ensures that there is plenty of space for us all including luggage, clothing and camera equipment. The minibus also provides three pin plug sockets for charging up camera batteries on the go as well as several USB ports for charging up mobile phones. There is dedicated heating for rear passengers.

Skye
This was my second workshop with Melvin and it won’t be my last. This guy has such enthusiasm and is willing at all times to share his knowledge and experiences with everyone of his clients.

One will go home from his workshops with an abundance of great images. If you have never taken one of his workshops, you are really missing out. ‘Till the next time Melvin, slán.

This workshop was an excellent experience. I had been looking forward to it for some sometime and was not disappointed. Melvin’s knowledge of Skye is encyclopaedic and meant we filled our time to great effect. Even though the weather didn’t play ball every day Melvin either imparted valuable editing methodologies or chased the gaps in the rain. With Melvin’s support I got some great images and his relaxed style made for an enjoyable time.
