This workshop is self-catering. There is also Lochinver Larder across the road from the Spar shop where you can purchase gourmet pies (they’re amazing). Evening meals will either be eaten in the house or we can go out to Peet’s, a local restaurant in Lochinver.

Exertion Level
Easy/Medium – All locations within a mile from the car, some much closer. Uneven paths and slippery rocks near on the beach. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required.

Assynt and Inverpolly is a stunning part of the west coast of Scotland and one of the advantages of this region is that it is under photographed allowing for a unique opportunity to experience plenty of peace and quiet as the area is not overrun with photographers and you can quite often find yourself alone with just your thoughts and camera.

The other thing I love about Assynt and Inverpolly is that the main mountains (known as Grahams) are all wonderfully isolated allowing you to capture wide open vistas with the several gorgeous mountains of Suilven, Cùl Mòr and the most famous Graham in the area, Stac Pollaidh in shot. They all take centre stage and shine in the wonderful Scottish autumnal light. We will also get an opportunity to visit some of the finest beaches in Scotland, Clachtoll, Achmelvich and Achnahaird.

Assynt and Inverpolly has quickly become one of my favourite places in the UK to visit with a camera. With this in mind, I am genuinely delighted and excited to be running a five day photography tour to Assynt and Inverpolly during the glorious autumn month of October 2019. I hope you can come and join me.

The choice of accommodation for this workshop is a beautiful five bedroom, self catering house near Lochinver. This ensures that we are perfectly positioned to venture north and south while reducing driving time and increasing time spent on location (which is very important to you so it is very important to me). There are four bedrooms available for those who attend. There are two double bedrooms and two twins. With the tour limited to just five people, that requires two people sharing one of the twin rooms but at a reduced rate to compensate.

There are two prices available depending on whether you wish to have your own room or are happy to share and reduce your workshop cost.

Address and directions will be given on confirmation of the workshop place booking

Our mode of transport for this workshop is my modern nine-seater long wheelbase Ford Tourneo minibus. This ensures that there is plenty of space for us all including luggage, clothing and camera equipment. The minibus also provides three pin plug sockets for charging up camera batteries on the go as well as several USB ports for charging up mobile phones. There is dedicated heating for rear passengers.

Tripadvisor Reviews ( Read all reviews here )

What a brilliant Workshop in all respects, photography, people, tuition, photographic guidance, accommodation, image reviews, food, professional delivery, everything was perfect.

Melvin put every ounce of his being into making it great for the 5 of us on the Workshop, under his guidance I shot some spectacular landscape shots.

Melvin’s meticulous research of the area was second-to-non – which clearly showed as he took us to the most spectacular locations to capture sunsets/rises and stunning scenery.

A little visited area of the British Isles this Workshop is a must for any photographer.

I attended Melvin’s 5 day photographic workshop in Assynt in the far north west of Scotland. The area is stunning and rife with photographic possibilities and Melvin had obviously done his homework to ensure we (5 of us) could make the most of it.

We stayed in a rented house on the edge of Lochinver that was itself in a scenic spot and ideal for our needs.

Moreover Melvin is an excellent workshop leader and runs fairly small workshops to ensure each participant receives help and guidance appropriate to their needs. He’s also a very entertaining host.
